Placemat – Fiemme placemat model 03.

Since the mid-seventeenth century, itinerant painters worked in the valleys of Trentino and South Tyrol: sometimes they were solitary figures, while others were entire families who dedicated themselves to the art of painting. These adventurous artists roamed the Alpine valleys in search of clients for large and small jobs. They carried with them a box containing ready-made powders or paints, brushes and everything else that could be used for their art. They decorated facades, doors, cribs, wardrobes and chests, small objects but also ceilings with simple designs and very bright colors. The best were called to decorate churches and noble houses or to make portraits. The painting schools of the Fiemme and Fassa valleys were also very popular abroad, so much so that their works reached as far as Switzerland, Bavaria and Austria.
